Free of charge? I lol'd.

I'm quite sure I paid real money for this game + expansions. Let me find the receipts to prove that I really did pay.

Why do you think they are NOT gonna do that?

Stop bringing up how free this game is. As I said before, they chose this business model, not me, not us players. If I were a game developer and I know that I can't afford to make a good game with such business model, I wouldn't bother, much less taunt about it to the world how it's "the future of MMO's business model".

Please.

And if they had left the XTH alone, we'd have fewer bugs with it. So at this point I am wishing that they had just skipped the overhaul. Perhaps in a few days they'll have all of these issues resolved, though, and I'll change my opinion.

Except that this isn't the end of things. ArenaNet is hoping that the players from Guild Wars will go on to buy Guild Wars 2. They're also hoping that the current players convince others to buy the game -- the current version or the future version, or ideally, both.

If ArenaNet abandons the game ("you paid us already, what more do you want us to do?") they're destroying the chances that players will stay, and destroying the chances that those players will convince others to join. Some players already feel this way, and are in fact former players.

On the other end of the spectrum, though, there's the potential problem where they continue to update the game, but have more and more problems as time goes on. Then the players will start to feel that even though the game isn't abandoned, the changes are so poorly implemented that it's not worth sticking around. Some players feel that this is already the case.

But please, tell me why you think they're providing these updates. They're free, no charge, so what possible good could it do? Obviously these things take developer time to implement (plus a whole lot of time for everyone else involved), and that is most definitely not free time. ArenaNet is a for-profit company, so how could these updates make any sort of financial sense?

You are absolutely right, nkuvu.
How could these updates make financial sense? Because it brings older players back to the game, it brings new players to the game and it makes sure that people look out for GW2.

Essentially I just wanted to point out that the people at Anet are... well, just people, they make mistakes. And I just noticed that a lot of post here were rather negative. I know that these problems with updates and XTH put Anet a bit in a bad light. Still I didn't like what I saw here and there... so many RED ENGINE GO's. I didn't mean to start a big discussion on how Anet should run their game -_-

Maybe it's just bad karma cause they gave in to the hairdresser requests... ^^

Pinguinius is right, and I'll add that when our lousy internet connection fails (which actually is a subscription service), we call up the provider and demand a credit, and you know what? They give it to us. They certainly don't laugh and "disconnect" us.

Dionysus, are you a kid living at home, as you are accusing others of being? Because you seem confused about these things.

To those who believe that no monthly subscription fee = free game. Is Guild Wars or ANet a Non Profit Company? No. Did someone really rich just give them money to develop and to maintain this game? No. Does Guild Wars plan to keep the game going and the employees keep working if there is no revenue or prospect of future revenue? No.

ANet, Inc. is a FOR profit company, in business to make money. They make decisions and act in order to maximize income and value of their stock. All their employees get paid real world $, that is $ from our pockets, nowhere else. They act in a way to maximize income and value.

The fact that their business model calls for no monthly fee means they dont derive income from monthly fees but other sources. And those who have only spent 39.99 from day one and not paid any more money to ANet, Inc. while they appreciate you sticking up for them on these boards, they say GTFO they don't need you taking up server space.

And since there is a business relationship, there needs to be communication between the parties to more effectively serve eachother. QQing, or voicing displeasure is actually good as it hopefully will lead to corrections and more satisfied consumers.(Satisfied Consumers = more money as they tend to spend when happy)

To everyone asking why these updates aren't properly tested, a full testing-period often takes much, much longer than the actually creation. What takes a week to code could easily take a month to properly review and test. Even after that, the chances that everything works smoothly is slim to none, when you're considering all the variables involved, not to mention when the usage of the update will be thousands of times larger.

I'm certain the Xunlai house updates were tested, but obviously not to the extent that it would be utilized in actual practise (which would be next to impossible).

As for why the fixes and resolutions haven't been done "now", you have several things to consider:

1) They might not know the problem. Yes, amazing as it sounds, finding the problem is not easy. Especially when that problem has nothing to do with coding errors, and everything to do hardware/software interaction.

2) The bug might already be fixed - It just won't appear fixed until next month, when the system is actually used again.

3) For the missing points, there may not be a system in place to retroactively give points to people en masse (or even individually). That means implementing a method from scratch, which certainly isn't a quick fix.

You make it sound as if the whole XTH system is SO NEW and that problems have arisen only recently.

It's not, and there have been all kind of problems from day one. People don't get the point reward is one of them.

With all this chatter being TLDR, has anyone from Anet said when they will have this fixed?

If the delay is just so they can figure out points distribution, they should just blanket all the people who have not yet got their points with something like 1oo points as good customer service for the delays.

As you are aware, the distribution of May Xunlai Tournament Points took place on June 18th. Unfortunately, a problem developed during the distribution. Many players received their points, but some players appear to have received the incorrect number of points, and others did not receive any points at all, even though they did make predictions.

The dev team is currently reviewing the situation in order to determine the best means to correct the problem. The team will be need a few days to settle on and implement a resolution. In the meantime, we greatly appreciate your patience as we address the issue.

This is the message I got from Support.
My guess would be that it is the message they send to everybody.

Got the exact same message on my support ticket...
Looks to me like they are having a hard time fixing their problems and in the meantime trying to let us be (even more) patient by giving a standard answer.
If i didn't knew better i would think they created a little program that automatically answers support tickets containing "tournament reward points" with this response and a random GM name in the signature...

Whatever it is, it sure doesn't make their new XTH look good...not only did they got a problem in handing out the reward points, it also affects the next tournament in which we are unable to make predictions due to this problem.

I wonder who was the genius who called the new XTH "improved" in the first place. In my opinion its a major fail.

Question is: are they fixing it for everyone, or only the ones who took the trouble of sending a ticket?

From their official statements so far, only for those who have sent a ticket.

Really now, does this not need to be resolved in the next day or so or we gonna have problems with the June '09 tourney predictions.

Could use a statement from Regina about now.

I wonder how many people that actually got points (I got my points) will still send an e-mail to support. I further wonder how many of those people will actually get points given to them a second time. I wonder even further how many of those people will rinse and repeat. I hope ANet's prepared to drop the banhammer. For that matter, I think ANet should make an announcement or post somewhere on their site stating what they will do to people caught abusing the system like that. It's better to let them know ahead of time of the consequences so there are no -> well they didn't say you couldn't responses..

Well what do you know, I got another 55 points on 2 accounts that I forgot to vote on. That makes 3/4 accounts that i got points for. I never get any extra points when Anet messed up, now I'm really wondering what's going on.

Are you saying people should be banned for having multiple accounts? That's hardly fair, considering 98% of the community has at least two or three accounts. But the majority of people didn't buy accounts just for the XTH. That came later as an added bonus to having multiple accounts. And not all people get the Z keys to sell them, but rather use them for the Zaishen title and hope for something good out of the chest. So banning people for owning multiple accounts hardly seems just.

Wow...so now people who didn't even vote get points? I still have 4 accounts that haven't received anything and they all voted. WTF ANet...and it's been several days, any updates...would be nice.

I highly, highly doubt more than 10% of the community has multiple accounts.

Also, that's not even close to what he's saying and I have no idea where you came up with that. He's talking about if people did get points yet still sent in false support tickets claiming that they didn't in an attempt to take advantage of the whole mess and get more points.
